Sweden
Applications for trademark registrations in Sweden are made to the Swedish Patent and Registration Office.
In Sweden the principle applies of an official review of relative obstacles, that is to say that the authorities examine previous rights to check that your mark cannot be confused with another.
When a trademark is being registered it is published in the Swedish trademark journal, Svensk Varumärkestidning, after which there follows an objection period of two months, allowing a previous rights holder to object to your mark if they consider it to be too similar to their own. If no objections are received your registration comes into force. The registration remains in force for 10 years before it needs to be renewed.
