I have been called up by a company that tells me that someone has tried to register my domain name. What should I do?
What should we do if we have been exposed to cyber squatting?
Cyber squatting implies that a domain name which is identical or can be confused with a trademark is registered by someone other than the rights holder. The line of action required to take over an already-registered domain name depends on the conditions involved. If trademark violation can be proven the domain name can be taken over through court action, as a dispute procedure may be necessary. Every country has its own set of rules and in many cases a simplified dispute procedure exists for domain names. In many instances a letter of warning will be sufficient. If an infringement cannot be proven, an attempt can be made to buy the name back. Please contact us and we can help you.
